Wolverines Superhero Night January 18th

The Wolverines are excited to reveal the “Hero” for their 3rd ever Superhero Night.

Superhero Night was created by Wolverines Broadcaster & Business Manager after the passing of his brother Kyle, who suffered from Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy.

Muscular dystrophy is an overarching term for a group of muscle diseases, defined by muscle weakness. The Canadian Neuromuscular Disease Registry (CNDR) estimates there are more than 800 boys and young men in Canada currently living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and coping with its debilitating symptoms.

Wyatt had this to say about the night “The first few years it was incredibly difficult but fulfilling to put the night together but I appreciate all the support from the players and staff I receive every year. Now, after a few seasons it warms my heart to see fans wearing them in our barn and when we go on the road with the team.”

The last two seasons the Wolverines have designated Defeat Duchenne Canada, the country’s only national charity dedicated to curing this disorder and dramatically improving the lives of boys and families who have to cope with its debilitating symptoms.

Wyatt adds “With your support the last few seasons we have raised nearly $20,000 for Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy and this season I know that there is more than just me that would like to use the night to help support a loved one so this year we are going to splitting the jersey and door donations.”

Wolverines Forward Stefan Serediak lost his mother to Breast Cancer in September of 2021 and will be playing to honour her memory.

“Growing up my mother was a huge inspiration to me as most mothers are to their children. When I lost her to breast cancer in september of 2021 it was definitely a rough time for me and my family. Her being such a strong woman taught me to live by multiple core values. One of which being kindness and using my loud voice in a positive way. I learned to turn grief into gratefulness and honour my superhero who had been through an amazing journey with me for 16 years of my life. A way for me to use my voice positively was run for the cure. It was a way for me to not only embody one of the core values she taught me but support the millions of families dealing with this horrible tragedy around Canada in honour of my mom. With superhero night coming up on January 18th, I know who I’ll be fighting for: My mom and the continuous fight against breast cancer.”

Stefan has chosen the Canadian Cancer Society to play for and 1/3 of the total raised will go to them as well.

Associate Coach Bryson Traptow earlier this season helped raise money for Alzheimer Calgary with a walk/run for his father who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Bryson and his family had this to say “Murray, who is an active, involved, loving husband and father to three grown boys, and their dog Duke, had been silently struggling for years with what was initially thought to be stress and anxiety – turned into a diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s in April 2024 at 59 years old. No wonder life seemed so hard at times. A man whose family came first and would die trying, never gave up and never will.

Although a daunting and frightening diagnosis, it was an answer. Murray perseveres daily by searching for healthy coping mechanisms, ultimately channeling his energy into creating a positive day. His resilience and strength have transferred to his wife and sons, who support one another unwaveringly.

Murray and Al’z Pals (family and friends) have decided to live life fully, love, and support one another while finding light through laughter.

Your donation will go to YouQuest, a non-profit organization, which creates community and programming for people with young onset dementia
and their families
for active health and well-being.
